Bright Spaces, Welcome Places is a directory of providers committed to gender justice, sexuality justice, racial justice, and disability justice. Bright Spaces is a project of Health Equity Alliance for LGBTQ+ New Mexicans (HEAL Plus NM), and was created because our members asked for a directory of behavioral health providers that are queer and trans-affirming. From there, we expanded to include more provider service sectors.
HEAL Plus NM asks each provider to self-rate themself in each area of justice to give community members more information when selecting providers. We no longer list new agencies, and we no longer require a policy assessment to be accepted into the directory. Community members can submit feedback about providers here. We see our directory as a relationship between providers and the queer and trans community. We will pass on anonymous feedback from clients to providers listed here to encourage accountability, learning, and growth.
We created four original art prints through a community art process involving members of the LGBTQ+ community and artists in developing imagery of LGBTQ+ resiliency, wellness, and pride. Providers who are listed in our directory can receive one free print, and community members can purchase them.
